Day 10: Are You a Thought Connoisseur? 

Have you ever gone wine tasting? Wine tasting, popular in the wine country in California, is where we take a day or afternoon off to test and taste the various wines, to learn and discover new wines, old wines…what we like and what we don ‘t like. Instead of a wine tasting day, with thought-step 10 we are going on thought-tasting adventure today!

I like to go thought tasting at least once a day-it’s an amazing transformational habit! Imagine that you own a high-end wine shop in Europe that caters to wine connoisseurs, and you are known for providing all the new and old and exciting selections in wine. You are on a buying trip and you will select the best in taste and in value for your clients and customers. Except you aren’t selecting wine, you are selecting your thoughts. You are the connoisseur of your thoughts!

Go ahead right now and taste some of the thoughts that are swirling around you. This one! No that one! That one is a little bitter. That one is too smoky. This one is light and fruity. Swirl the thought around a little in the palette of your mind. Clear your mind before accepting a new thought to try out. After a minute of so of thought tasting, select your favorite one! 

Then drink in that thought sip by sip all day long.

30 Days to Freedom from Negative Thought HabitsAlthough these steps are fairly simple, unfortunately most of us were not taught these simple steps. We were taught how to read, and how to do math, but rarely has anyone taught us the life skill of how to bring our dreams to reality. Rarely has anyone taught us the skill of identifying what our dreams may or may not be. Today on Day 8 we are going to trade in one belief system that we have identified yesterday that is not enhancing our dreaming process for one that does.

Now we are only advocating that you do this in your practice of thought-steps. We are teaching you one day at a time how to turn your thought processes into a dream machine! So today we would like for your to think of a new belief that could replace the one belief that you identified yesterday as a belief that is impeding you seeing your dreams come true. It might be a belief that is saying that you don’t deserve to have your dreams come true, or that you are not good enough to be successful, or that you are never going to amount to anything. We want you to imagine in your thoughts that you are going to replace that belief with a more truthful, more life giving belief.

Think of a new belief and in your mind replace that belief every time the old belief pops up. Sometimes I ring a bell or a buzzer in my head, when I hear or feel or sense that an old belief is kicking in. Then I am able to substitute it with a happier, more effective, more loving, or productive belief. All I have to do is spend a few moments restated the belief to my subconscious, and after 30 days, usually a new habit is formed and we do not even have to think about it!

If you are having trouble thinking of a new belief to replace the old belief with, think of something that is the opposite of that belief, it usually works well! Or you can substitute an unproductive belief with a thankfulness belief. These beliefs and thoughts are hanging around all the time, most of the time we don’t ever realize they are running in the background and how much they affect our choices, actions, and life outcomes.

You have probably heard the expression, “Seeing is believing,” but I think it’s a more truthful statement if we turn it around. “Believing is seeing,” Consider the millions of pieces of information coming at us each second of the day! We have to sift through all this and select what we see.  We select the information we see from what we already believe. That’s how strong our beliefs systems really are. So I like to say, “Believing is seeing.” First we believe it, and then we see it!

Our thought-step for today has to do with our belief systems. What is a belief system? A belief system is the foundation of every choice we make. The belief system is like the structural basis of what we hang our actions onto. It’s like the rafters that we build walls onto, or the chassis to which a car body is attached. So our belief systems may strongly affect our choices and actions.

Today we will identify one simple belief that we hold near and dear to our hearts. It doesn’t need to be a big belief, just pick on that comes to mind and contemplate that belief. These are thought-steps so you don’t need to do anything else but spend a minute or two thinking about it. Think of a strong belief that you hold. Now think of the choices and actions you make, have made, and are likely to make because of that belief.

So for example, if I believe that I am not good at math, am I likely to become a Math teacher? If I believe that I am uncoordinated, am I likely to want to be an athlete? If I believe that I am religious, will I pray when confronted with a near death situation? Our belief systems affect our actions and choices.

Have you selected one belief? I suggest that you select one belief every day from here on out, and reflect on that belief for a minute, to realize how it affects your choices and actions. This is an important thought-step to take. As we shine the light of our thought-step awareness on each belief that we use, we are likely to understand which beliefs are positive, negative, and truthful; which ones really serve us, and which ones undermine or enhance o our true desires.

Often when we try to think of what we would really want to do, if we could make our dreams really come true, we draw a blank; and we just don’t know what we really want to do! This is because our imagination has been culturally diminished for a very long time.

We are taught to squash the imagination from day 1. If we have imagination it needs to be handled in a certain way, or we will lose approval, status and credibility amongst our peers. Our imagination then is substituted with things that we should buy, have, or do, that actually serves others people dreams and pocketbooks too! (But not our own)

But imagination is the seed of our dreams. We must awaken our imagination to live fully again, if we want to conceive of the dreams that our hearts and soul desires. This thought-step is focused on reawakening your imagination. So to get yours flowing, we ask that you think of one wish you would ask if a genie came to you right now. If I Dream of Genie came to you, and you could ask her for any wish, what would it be?

Just like all the other steps before this, thought-step 7 is a practice that will open up your imagination if you practice it every day. What did you wish for? A million dollars? Take it to the next level…what would you do with the million dollars? What would you buy with it? How would it make you feel? Just think of one wish and follow it through its storyline to imagine and feel what you would do with that wish.

Yesterday day and the day before we identified two types of desires, instant gratification desires and yesterday our own pure desires. Today we will ask you to take the new thought-step of substitution.

Imagine you are going to a car dealership and you are trading in your older worn out car that is maybe leaking a little oil, has a little dent on the bumper, and perhaps the button on the radio isn’t working quite right. You are going to get a brand new car, with incredible gas mileage, beautiful gadgets, and that new car smell. You get in it drive it home, and wow, it just drives so easily and quietly, everything works effortlessly.

So that’s what you are going to do in today’s thought-step. You are going to exchange one run down instant gratification desires for a souped-up turbo desire. Remember this is an easy 31-day thought step process, where we are working on changing our thought patterns to be more conducive to attracting our dreams to reality. We don’t actually ask you to change your behavior, or make any life-changing decisions or drop any serious addictions.

Would you be watching less TV at night and replacing it with writing that novel you always wanted to write? Exactly what would it look like to replace one instant gratification desire with one pure and true desire of your heart?

Everything we do starts in the mind first.

For Instance, you are going to take out the trash. You think to yourself, I am going to take out the trash. You have a need and a purpose for taking out the trash, and that purpose motivates you to action. You visualize in your mind when and how and where you will empty that trash before you actually take the action!

Just try doing something without first seeing it in your mind. I dare you! Let me know if you can do this, because that would defy natural law indeed. Taking out the trash example a simplified version of anything and everything you do. First you have the thought of doing it, and then you are inspired to action by a purpose or need.

Today we are looking at desire, but not the desire of instant gratification, and not the desire of someone else’s dreams infused into your life style. Today in our thought-step we ask you to identify just one desire that drives you or that did drive you in the past.

This desire is very pure, and it has passion and joy associated with it. Sometimes you can look to hobbies to identify this desire, or you can look to those things that you have found yourself lost in when you are doing them.
Hours have gone by, and you didn’t even realize it!

So today, identify just one pure passionate desire that is a unique part of you. Perhaps you always loved to play music or write poetry, or cook. Somewhere along the line life got too busy, and it fell by the wayside.

But it’s never too late to resurrect a talent, a gift, a passion, and a true desire. I found my passion to write just 4 years ago once my daughter graduated from college. Since then I have written and published 10 books of my own, and helped some other 50 books of others to be published as well! It was a true and pure desire of mine, unfulfilled for decades!

Do Your Desires Drive YOU or do YOU Drive Your Desires?

Ever just feel like you don’t have the oomph to do what it takes? I have. And usually it’s because I am using my oomph to do what it takes for stuff other than my dreams. We are conditioned by those who can afford to buy advertising that we need to trade our dreams for instant gratifications.

So I ask you, do your desires drive you or do you drive your desires?

The purpose of this thought-step is to identify just one desire that is a desire that you are fulfilling for someone else instead of yourself.  The desires to smoke cigarettes or use up gobs of time watching TV are fulfilling other people’s dreams.

I smoked when I was younger. so I use smoking as an example. When you buy that pack of cigarettes or watch that TV for hours on end, instead of using that money (how much a year do people spend on cigarettes anyway?) to start a home based business, or that TV consumption time write your dreams book, or to travel…these desires for instant gratification are competing with our true desires for our true dreams.

We aren’t tying to change any behavior with these thought-steps. This series is designed to create new thinking habits, and we are not suggesting therapy or any behavior modification. So when we bring these things up, its only to increase awareness–an awareness that will help us move into more productive and truthful thought patterns. This is a very simple mini-course, the goal is to teach you to take thought-steps and in 30 days to change the way you think to a more productive and truthful way of thinking.

What can happen if we choose to fullfill desires for instant gratification, over time our resources can diminish, which can keep us from investing our resources, money, time, energy in our true desires.

So in this step we ask you to identify just one desire that is driving you in a direction away from your dreams. Just identify, don’t try to change it, don’t judge it, and just notice it!

This 30-day thought-step program is designed to change your habits about how you think about your life. Do you often feel that your efforts go unrewarded? Do you ever feel that people take advantage of your kindness? That no one appreciates you? Do you ever wonder if you are sabotaging your best life?

Albert Einstein said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results! With that definition, most of us have been insane, including myself! This is one of my favorite quotes because it is so true!

So what we are going to do with this thought-step is identify those things we are doing over and over again that aren’t working! This is such a simple brilliant concept, but for some reason we are so distracted with chasing the results that we don’t see that we are like rats on a treadmill! Ha! I’ve done it, so many times, so I do not exclude myself.

This thought-step will help us to become aware of those things we are repeating and just notice them. Hmmmm. I keep dating the same type, and I am not finding a serious relationship. (Maybe its because that type of men is an unavailable type.”) Or hmmmm…I can never seem to please my boss, no matter what I do, the harder I work, the less I am appreciated. (Maybe I’m too available and he does not completely realize how much I really do).

These are just some examples of repeating patterns hinder our ability to bring our dreams to reality. Let’s just take one minute and find one repeating situation that isn’t bringing results we really want or deserve. This is a mini-series and we only ask that you do one thought-step, so just pick one thing that feels like insanity, and notice it. Just notice it.

Now that you’ve noticed the one thing in your life that fits Einstein’s definition of insanity, make a promise to yourself to notice it each time it repeats itself. Notice that it seems to have a life of its own.

This is a very easy mini-series and we are only teach thought-steps, and we do not ask you to change the situation, we only ask that you notice it with your thoughts. If you try to change the situation that sometimes also can become a  part of the repeating insanity, so we just ask that you notice it happening! These 30 thought-steps prepares you to be very successful in the Dreams to Reality Curriculum and Training.

Day 2: “What are Your Pet Obstacles”?

Welcome to Day 2 of 30 Days to Freedom from Negative Thought Habits. This is the prerequisite course for the Dreams to Reality Complete Curriculum. You’ll be surprised how just taking these easy thought-steps will start brining your dreams towards you. Doing this everyday for a month will create a great habit and great habit will create great results.

With Day 2 we are going to have you go a little further with your anxieties and fears. First of all, we all have them. Let me tell you, I have taught many people and guided many people through bringing their dreams to reality! We all have fears that keep us from just getting started. By the fact that you have already done Step 1, and are now on step 2, you are way ahead of the game! Congratulations for taking this Step 2! Yes, congratulate yourself!

For this step we want you to remember the first little anxiety that comes to mind, possible your first thought this morning when you woke up. Is it a personal insecurity? A bill you need to pay? A favor that you promised someone? Simply identify one small anxiety and allow it to have voice before you squash it down. We do this because the fears, insecurities and anxieties that become our “pet obstacles” keep us from seeing our real dreams come true. Yes, we know that you may have been taught or exhorted, “no negative thinking1” But there’s a difference between negative thinking, fearful thinking, positive thinking and truthful thinking. Right now we want to shine one truth on one negative thought, to dismiss it.

So simply take one minute to identify one fear, anxiety, or insecurity, and speak to it. Tell it, “Thank you very much, I know that you are trying to protect me from harm, but I am dismissing you to go into the light of truth.”

Then imagine the light of truth shining on that one little anxiety or fear.

Day 1: How Spacious is Your Comfort Zone?

Welcome to Day 1 of 30 Days to Freedom from Negative Thought Habits. This is the prerequisite course for the Dreams to Reality Complete Curriculum.This is going to be SO FUN! Baby Steps are so incredible because they and they really work! In the Dreams to Reality Workbook, we teach 10 Big Action Steps we teach to achieve your dreams on purpose, and that first action step is “Launch Your Courage.”

But this series is really simple. We teach mini thought-steps, so we are just going to talk a little about courage in this first thought-step. Courage is not the lack of fear but it is pushing through fear. Some of you will be so ready to feel the fear and do it anyway! Others will want to go more slowly. Just know it is normal to have fear when stepping out of your comfort zone. But we aren’t going to step out of our comfort zone; we’re going to do something else. Read on and you’ll see.

For this first step we want you to meditate, concentrate, or just simply take one minute out to feel the fear of leaving of your present comfort zone. Close your eyes. Feel your comfort zone. Feel how warm and fuzzy and cozy you feel in that comfort zone space. Now feel your comfort zone being stretched. Now feel the fear of loss of your comfort zone. Feel your bigger, more spacious comfort zone. And now feel the feeling of your dreams came to true.

Then think about trading expanding your cozy comfort zone for and expanded one that will fit that dream. Think about that dream come true being one and fitting inside your newer bigger comfort zone. So feel that fear of letting go of the old comfort zone…and let is pass through you like a cloud passing overhead. Now feel and enjoy your new expanded comfort zone! By allowing yourself to feel this fear, without resisting it, hiding or stuffing it…you’ll already have taken the first action step of How to Attract your Dreams to Reality in 30 Daily Thought-Steps and to change your life for the better.
